My Most Recent 5 Star Reads

It's time for Top Ten Tuesday and this weeks topic is:

My Most Recent 5 Star Reads

This weeks prompt actually made me realise that I am very picky when it comes to giving a book 5 stars. I actually had to go back over six months ago in order to find ten five star reads. I don't give out the elusive 5 star rating to just any book. It usually goes to a book that truly amazes me, or moves me, or makes me feel something. The 5 star rating is for books I know I am not going to forget. So here it goes, here are the last ten books that deserved that 5 star rating.

Morning Star by Pierce Brown

I loved this book, so much. Although, be aware, I am going to end up saying this about every book in this list. It was an incredible, mind-blowing, fucking awesome end to one amazing trilogy. I didn't know what to expect from this book. I was pretty nervous though, as I was fully aware of the fact that Pierce Brown had the power to break my heart with this final book. And he did, at times. But he also made me laugh, cry and drop my book in shock. I haven't reviewed this book yet and it has been months, I just don't have the words yet to sum up what this book did to me.

When We Collided by Emery Lord

I adored this book, it just spoke to me so much. Emery Lord writes really wonderful contemporaries and I especially love this one, I think it is my favourite of her books so far. It explores grief and mental health, and I felt that it did it so well. I could relate to both of the characters quite a bit and really connected to them when reading this book. You can read my full review here.

I LOVE These Books, But Don't Talk About Them Enough!

It's time for Top Ten Tuesday and this week I am doing last weeks topic, as I missed it and think it's way more interesting to do than my Spring TBR.

Books I Love But Don't Talk About Enough

I LOVE this weeks topic!!! It is basically just an excuse to gush endlessly about some of my all time favourite books!!! WOOP WOOP! I can't wait. I definitely feel that I don't get to gush about my favourite books enough. I know I talk constantly about Harry Potter, but everything else seems to take a back seat to new releases. Not any more, time to fangirl!!!

bring it on emperor's new groove

Adult Fiction

I concentrate so much on young adult fiction on this blog, all my favourite adult fiction barely gets a mention on here.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

I have actually only read this once, but it's a book that I always immediately think of whenever someone asks me about my favourite books. This was a book that got me back into reading regularly, about eight years ago now. I could not put this book down and it started my obsession with Jodi Picoult. I went and bought as many of her books I could find and devoured them all, she quickly became a favourite author of mine. I loved this book for all the different character point of views, and the fact it made me cry far too much. Such an amazing book and, just so you know, a million times better and different from the movie.

My Weekly Recap: Adele & Review Books

It's nice to finally say that I have had an AMAZING week! I have been on a round of antibiotics, which has helped clear up my sinusitis, meaning I am sickness free for the first time in months. I have also had a week off work with the fiancé, which has been absolutely amazing. We have both just been able to enjoy each others company, without stressing about work. We also went out with a group of friends to celebrate his 25th birthday, and had a fantastic night. The morning after was awful, hangovers just seem to get worse the older you get.

The best thing to happen all week occurred on Wednesday, when I went to see Adele live at the O2 in London. It was an amazing night and I had such a great time. I have been to a lot of concerts in my life, but I've never heard someone sing like that in real life. That's real talent.

When We Collided by Emery Lord: So Much More Than A Contemporary Romance!

Title: When We Collided
Author: Emery Lord
Publisher: Bloomsbury Children's
Buy this book: Amazon / Book Depository
Meet Vivi and Jonah: A girl and a boy whose love has the power save or destroy them.  Vivi and Jonah couldn't be more different. Vivi craves anything joyful or beautiful that life can offer. Jonah has been burdened by responsibility for his family ever since his father died. As summer begins, Jonah resigns himself to another season of getting by. Then Vivi arrives, and suddenly life seems brighter and better. Jonah is the perfect project for Vivi, and things finally feel right for Jonah. Their love is the answer to everything. But soon Vivi's zest for life falters, as her adventurousness becomes true danger-seeking. Jonah tries to keep her safe, but there's something important Vivi hasn't told him.

This is my third Emery Lord novel and I am so happy to say that she did not disappoint. Her debut, Open Road Summer, was such a wonderful contemporary novel, it put the biggest smile on my face. I was sure I had found a contemporary romance author to rival Kasie West, and I was right. Her next book, The Start of You and Me, was just as adorable and I knew then that I had found a new favourite author, someone who found their way on to my auto-buy list. So, when I got the chance to review When We Collided, I jumped at it - or, rather, I USED ALL THE CAPS AND ALL THE EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!! I was certain that Emery Lord would not disappoint me and I was so right, this book blew me away!

I'm In The Minority When It Comes to These Characters

It's time for Top Ten Tuesday and this week I am doing last weeks topic, as I missed it and think it's way more interesting to do than my Spring TBR.

Characters I Loathe That Others Love & Those I Love That Others Loathe

I Loathe

ANNOYING, YOU'RE ANNOYING!
Tris Prior

Oh, Tris, it started off so well. There you were in book one, a short girl like myself, who makes a ton of brave decisions. You aren't the heroine who starts off super amazing, you had to fight hard to earn your spot in Dauntless. I liked you, a lot. But then came book two, and you started to get super annoying and make awful decisions that had me so frustrated. I don't even want to get started on how you turned out in book three, by the halfway point of that book I was praying for someone to just kill you, so I no longer had to deal with you.

girls the mortal instruments tmi clary fray isabelle lightwoodClary Fray

I'm not sure why anyone likes Clary, but this is coming from someone who is only on book two of The Mortal Instruments series. Maybe she improves over time, but frankly I don't think I am going to warm to her any time soon. She is another one of those whiny, useless female characters, who just frustrate the hell out of me. I just wish that she actually thought through anything before making a decision. So far, I totally dislike her as a character.

Weekly Recap & Haul: Pierce Brown, Sickness and Being Absent

My relationship with my body right now
haha!
I have been completely absent from the blog for a few weeks now. Ooops! And I had been doing so well recently with sticking to regularly posting. It's not completely my fault, as I have been consistently sick since Christmas, first with laryngitis, then a chest infection, and the most recent was the flu. Now, I had thought I had actually had the flu before, but I was wrong. Oh my, I can't even describe how horrible that was. I literally couldn't get out of bed for about 5 days, I couldn't even sit up and read or watch telly. So there was no reading or blogging then, and once I was better I was back at work, still feeling run down and just not able to find the energy to blog.
